Heroines from the Fairy Tale Forests of the Brothers Grimm Collection (1990)
Edwin M. Knowles, Maker of Fine China
Ashton Drake

Heroines from the Fairy Tale Forest is a collection of hand-painted fine porcelain dolls, Premiere Grade, created by Dianna Effner in an exclusive limited edition under the hallmark of the Edwin M. Knowles China Company, and then distributed by Ashton Drake Galleries in 1990.

Snow White is an original doll created by Dianna Effner for that edition. These dolls were produced from 1990 in a limited edition that ended forever on December 31, 1991, after which time the master mold was destroyed to preserve the integrity of the edition.

Snow White is approximately 15" tall with her head, arms, and legs cast of fine bisque porcelain and meticulously hand painted. Her legendary "white as snow" complexion is beautifully captured with hand painting that enhances the contrast of her dark hair and red lips.  Her dark hair is tied back with a red ribbon, which matches the ribbons that embellish her clothing.  She has hand set eyes and, because her torso is cloth, her head may be turned from side to side or tilted up and down to vary her pose.

In one of her hands she holds a red miniature hand-painted perfectly scaled apple (still packaged). Her darling outfit is handcrafted and includes a peasant white blouse trimmed in delicate eyelet and embellished with red ribbons, over which she wears a black laced vest also tied with red ribbons.  Her multi-colored striped skirt is caught up at the front side hem with a tiny nosegay of flowers.  Her costume is completed with an eyelet trimmed petticoat, long white bloomers and faux leather shoes with red bows.  She also comes with her stand, her Certificate of Authenticity (Number 96 C), her little story brochure, and her registration card.  She has been residing in her box and is in mint condition, as are her box and tissue paper.

She is gift ready for you or for a loved one!

The little story brochure states that "Collectors will note with interest that Ms. Effner's signature appears on every 'Snow White' doll."

It is interesting to note that Dianna Effner's "Little Red Riding Hood," the doll made before "Snow White" was nominated for an Award of Excellence from Dolls magazine in 1989.

Little Red Riding Hood was the first issue in the Heroines from the Fairy Tale Forests Series.

Dianna Effner is also the designer of the popular completely porcelain "Little Darling" dolls.
